About
Based at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University my research takes an interdisciplinary approach to public health interventions (as outlined by DECIPHer). My research covers many aspects of development, considering the importance of complex influences from "the synapse to the society".
My background is in psychology and within this field I am interested in research on brain development and environmental influences, in particular how experience and learning can develop cognitive functioning during adolescence and the physiological changes within the brain that underlie this. I am applying this approach to the investigation of interventions in young adolescence and the prevention of risk taking behaviour such as early substance use.
I am a member of the Violence & Society Research Group, the Developmental Research group and PhD Working Forum Group at Cardiff University. I also teach statistics and SPSS to second year psychology undergraduates at the School of Psychology, Cardiff University.
My research is jointly funded by the Economic Social Research Council, DECIPHer and the School of Dentistry at Cardiff University.
