About
Victoria is an ESRC funded PhD student (socio-legal) studying the culture of violence in UK ice hockey and the identity of professional ice hockey players.
In 2009, Victoria completed an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Cardiff University, gaining a Distinction. A dissertation was conducted in the subject of the legitimisation of violence in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League. Professional ice hockey players, referees and league officials were interviewed for their experiences and perceptions of violence within the league.
In 2010, Victoria completed the ESRC required MSc in Social Science Research Methods (Socio-Legal Pathway), gaining a Distinction. A dissertation on the subject of spectator endorsement of violence within UK ice hockey was conducted. The research utilised a mixed method research design comprising ethnographic observation, attitude surveys and focus groups including an element of visual elicitation methods.
ESRC funding for this PhD will continue until 2013 during which time Victoria hopes to extend her understanding of the subject area and produce a thorough thesis on cultural identity within this subculture of sanctioned violence.
Victoria continues to teach at Cardiff University, lecturing on legitimate forms of violence and teaching criminological theory.
